Hoxx VPN

Hoxx! Hoxx! Hoxx! - From the first time I used it, I just can't stop..

First, for those of you who don't know what is a VPN service, I'll explain briefly: Let's suppose that we wish to watch a BBC VOD series.

That's a brilliant idea! But wait, the BBC restrict online access to their contents only to people from the UK.. What if we just could pretend we were from the UK... Congratulations: you now have Hoxx VPN installed on your browser.

At any moment you can decide to become a visitor from the US, UK, France, Canada, Australia and many other countries. Ah, and the price starts from none to about $8/month.

You get a free subscription with about 10 servers (10 locations across the globe where you can change your identity) and can upgrade to a PRO subscription with some 100 servers from around the world.

So when would you need a VPN:

 1. You're paranoid. That's it. You just can't stand the notion that someone could gather info about you and about your daily routine.

 2. You need a foreign identity in order to surf geographically restricted websites. I can mention Pandora.com, bbc.co.uk, hulu.com, netflix.com.

 3. You live in a country that prohibts free press thus you can't access many websites due to blocking.

 4. You wish to send emails to people using different identity. For instance, if you are an online marketer, it might be beneficial to be recognized as someone from the US instead of someone from Latin America.

What are the drawbacks of using VPN:

 1. If you use a free VPN (as Hoxx has), you use the same identity (IP) over the Internet as someone who used it before you. If that person malused that identity, the foreign identity may be useless, because some websites may  become aware of that identity.

 2. Some VPN services are not 100% of the time stable, this is due to heavy traffic VPN services have to deal with. I wouldn't necessary use VPN for all of my surfing.

 3. Some VPN services tend to disconnect you while you surf, and then you return to your original identity (the IP given to you by your Internet provider) without knowing it. This is a major safety risk.

 4. Some VPN service restrict part of your activities in order to keep their operation safe. For example, downloading large files might be restricted.
